Welcome to the AzAA Blog

August 2022

August blog is a day late, apologies!

August was National Dog Month, appointed by the makers of Milk Bone treats. And what archivist doesn’t love finding photos of beloved dogs amid the photographs they care for? Arizona Historical Society Archivists love our dogs! Tell us about yours or your favorite dog photos from your archives!

Here are some photos from the Arizona Historical Society Archives:

Arizona Historical Society’s award-winning Journal of Arizona History has an article from Vol. 42, No. 4 (winter 2001), entitled “Pioneer Pets: The Dogs of Territorial Tucson,” featuring photographs from the Buehman photo collection. Members and anyone with access to JStor can read the article for free.

And of course we’d be remiss to not mention our own dogs:

Eva, Perri Pyle, archivist at AHS Tucson
Rosa and Callie, Rachael Black, archivist at AHS Tucson
2 rottweilers, black and tan, sit on green grass and look at the camera
Zelda and Bodhi, Jennifer Merry, archivist at AHS Tempe
Fanny, family of Isabel Cazares, archivist at AHS Tempe
